Knowing what are the different types of bathrooms will help you when you're buying, selling, thinking of building your next home, or renovation it.

In most cases, the types are as follows: a full bathroom, a three-quarter bathroom, or a half-bathroom, in a few different combinations.

All home buyers have different preferences when looking for a home, bathroom types are the most important factors after the kitchen in a specific house. Bathroom types inform the home buyers, for example, if the house can accommodate a large for example six-seven person family, two full bathrooms, or at least a full bathroom and a half-bath at least needed for that kind of family.

If you ere selling your home, bathroom types will give you an accurate idea of the value of the home before you even see it in person.

How to determine the bathroom types.

Each bathroom has four components.

The bathroom components that fit in that calculation are the toilet, sink, shower, and bathtub. All four of them combined is considered a Full Bathroom Three components show a three-quarter bathroom. Two of those components make a half-bathroom. When a specific house is listed on the market, the bathroom type is often written as numbers. So, a half-bathroom will be listed as a 0.5 bathroom or a bathroom with either a stall shower or bathtub, will be listed as a 0.75 bathroom. Sometimes, the two figures can be combined, with a full bathroom and a three-quarter bathroom listed as 1.75 bathrooms but that is a very rare case.

Most of the time you'll have them listed separately. A toilet is nearly always included as a component. So, a regular half-bathroom configuration is a sink plus toilet. But sometimes you may find only a sink and a shower in a half-bathroom.

Full Bathrooms

Shower plus Bathtub or Full Bathroom

The shower and bathtub can be separated as a stall shower and the tub on the side or combined. When they are together they are still calculated as two different components.

To qualify as a shower/bathtub combination, there must be a bathtub with a lower faucet and a shower with a higher shower head or rainfall shower head. In that case, they are sharing controls. Most homes will have at least one full bathroom.

Master Bathroom

Master Bathrooms

The master bathroom is one that is connected to the master bedroom. It is also called an en suite bathroom. Typically, the master bathroom is a full bathroom or a three-quarter bathroom. In most cases, you'll have a stall shower and a separate bathtub. In some cases, the toilet also has its own entrance from inside the bathroom and it is enclosed for privacy. As long as the home has the second bathroom on the second floor or on the same floor, a master bathroom adds really good value to most homes.

Half Bathrooms

Half-Bathrooms

Half-bathrooms have a toilet and a sink. Half-bathrooms are also called sometimes powder rooms or guest bathrooms. Half-baths brings more privacy to the homeowner, as their guests can use that half a bath without entering any o the other bathrooms in the house. Since all half-bathrooms are mostly added to the house for visitors the storage space it is always limited and the size of those it is also on the smaller side. Quarter-Bathrooms You won't find many of those out there in the house you're looking to buy but they do exist. That type of bathroom is a small room and it has either a toilet or a shower. They are also called utility bathrooms. They are topical for basement spaces that are meant to be only for entertainment.
